Welcome to Run2bu, the running coaching company owned and run by Richard Pickering. My main goal is to help any athlete to be the best they can be. My aim is to always provide really great advice and excellent service in an informal yet professional manner.
My Coaching Philosophy
I believe that everyone has the right to be as successful as they want to be, both with their running and in life. However this does not come easily and requires dedication and hard work. I am fully committed to supporting that journey but the athlete also needs to take responsibility for their development and be prepared to try new things and be fully ‘bought in’ to the process.
Generally, there is no short cut or magic formula for success. It is often the accumulation of ‘good days’ and hard work that makes the difference with staying healthy being a main priority.

What Do I Do?
I offer a personal 1-1 coaching service. This involves me writing a training programme tailored specifically to your needs and level of development. With regular feedback both ways we can really focus on your individual development and your lifestyle. I strongly believe that this strategy is the best way to bring you great results.
I also offer individual mentoring appointments which may include a run along with a full review and assessment of your current level of training and future goals.
I am absolutely passionate about developing athletes and providing an outstanding level of service. Your programme will be written for you and tailored to your goals, ability level and your various commitments outside of running. I don’t do generic programmes for individuals (I have done some for groups) that some other companies provide because I believe that every athlete is different with differing circumstances so the ‘one size fits all’ approach just doesn’t work well for most people. I believe that what I am offering represents the very best value for money in the market. It gives you the opportunity to really embrace and enjoy our sport as well as helping you to deliver the results you are looking for.
About Richard Pickering
Richard is a UKA qualified endurance coach and a club runner. He has been coaching for about 15 years:
“I did not run seriously when I was younger, I played football throughout my 20s and really just ran for fitness. Although I was always a big athletics fan I didn’t really get into running until later in life.
“I am doing my best to make up for it now though and although I am probably in the twilight of my running career my passion for coaching and the development of athletes has never been greater.
“I also bring with me an absolute passion for the development of others and about 23 years of professional experience in learning and development with John Lewis Partnership. This, along with my qualification and experience as a personal development or life coach, puts me in a great place to understand your needs and give you the right programme which works best for you.”
“It was with John Lewis that I became involved in athletics through a track and field competition which, my then branch at Oxford Street won. From that moment really, I became hooked and the distances gradually grew until I eventually ran my first marathon at London in 2001.
“I have since ran 17 marathons with a relatively modest PB of 3.06. I think the chance for me to run a ‘sub 3’ has been and gone but I am now more than happy helping others to achieve their goals. There may still be one or two more marathons in the tank!
“I have worked with athletes at all levels from club to international and has been, for a number of years, one of about 45 endurance coaches on the England athletics national coach mentoring scheme run.
“This scheme has given me the chance to work with and discuss aspects of training with some of the best coaches in the country. I have had a chance to visit the GB high altitude camp in Font Romeu and have access to some of the best written and on-line resources available.”
